Established in 1993, the Special Political and Decolonization Committee is the 4th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly. With accordance to international law; SPECPOL’s main duties cover decolonization of territories, UN peacekeeping operations, special political operations, all matters and concerns related to Palestinian refugees, and works in harmony with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
In this committee, SPECPOL delegates will build the blueprints for growth and change through the conflict in Gaza. Specifically, they will focus on mitigating the impact of the blockade and finding solutions to deliver aid.
In this extremely delicate situation, where one wrong decision could devastate future generations, will the delegates unify under pressure? Or leave the world hanging on a thread?
Topic A: Ensuring the Safe Unrestricted Flow of Humanitarian Aid to Gaza
The blockade of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip has severely restricted food resources, medical supplies and vital services for survival. When paired with the ongoing conflict, damaged infrastructure and strong opposition for essential aid, the mission to deliver relief assistance becomes significantly more challenging. This topic focuses on addressing barriers to the entry of aid, ensuring protection of humanitarian workers and providing full relief assistance to civilians affected by the crisis.
Topic B: Addressing the Humanitarian and Socioeconomic Crisis in the Palestinian Authority
The prolonged crisis in the State of Palestine has largely caused instability, limited mobility and hindered economic growth. This topic calls on the delegates to provide long-term solutions for recovery of infrastructure, restoring the economy, establishing reliable ways of employment, and looking towards developing education. The topic emphasizes sustainable development and promotes self-sufficiency, while encouraging strong international relationships for Israel and Palestine’s future.
