"And mark this. Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you. And you know that I can do it." - Abigail Williams (The Crucible)
Salem, 1692. A town bound by prayer and scripture is plagued with fear and suspicion. Whispers of witchcraft have spread like wildfire, seeping into every household. A single accusation can sentence a soul to death, a single denial may mark one as a servant of the Devil. Ministers proclaim that the forces of darkness walk among the people, while magistrates weigh evidence tainted by lies, envy, and ambition.
But beneath it all lies something darker: grudges over land, rivalries between families, divisions within the church, and the greed of those who would exploit chaos for power. Paranoia has sown the seed, and now no one is safe from suspicion.
In this committee, delegates will step into the roles of Salem's judges, ministers, and townsfolk. Will Salem be delivered from evil, or will the fear of accusation consume the town until nothing remains but silence and blood on the gallows?
Topic A: Addressing the Rise of Digital Surveillance
Fear grips Salem; neighbours accuse neighbours, children whisper of magic, and the court struggles to separate truth from lies. Delegates must decide how witches are to be found and punished. Should spectral evidence and dreams be enough, or will stricter proof be demanded? Do too little, and the Devil may slip free; do too much, and the town may destroy itself.
Topic B: Addressing Climate Refugees and Displaced Persons
Beneath the rumours of witchcraft lie feuds, land disputes, and struggles for power. Some see the trials as a holy duty, and others see it as an opportunity to rise at the expense of their neighbours. Delegates must balance faith, fear, and ambition to hold Salem together or watch it crumble under its own suspicions.
