Congress is frozen in gridlock. Half the nation posits that the Supreme Court no longer serves justice. Militia have been raised by the States against one another. How could the House stay united?
It has been a quarter of a millennium since these United States had united in rebellion against tyranny. Yet, half believe that the President has become a new king and all know that once more, the fate of America will be dependent on the blood of fellow patriots turned traitors. As the National Guard attempted to march down San Francisco and New York City, the final straw had been reached. Illinois, California and Western States declared secession. The next day, Albany along with the New England states had done the same.
Now, as the South remains loyal to the President and the rest of the States bide their time, will you, as the leaders of the two camps, be able to reforge the Union in your image.
Topic A: Forging a New Union
With war becoming unavoidable, the Union of old cannot be maintained as states begin to squabble amongst themselves. However, for each side’s version of the new Union to be fully put into place, the war must first be won. As of now, while many of the states have pledged themselves to either cause, many more are still neutral towards the factions, biding their time till the opportune moment.
It is in this circumstance that you, delegates, must push forward your ideal for the new Union. Through both the barrel of a gun and the ink from a pen, you must secure the United States by garnering the support of the neutral governors and defeating the opposing faction in the field of battle.
Topic B: Maintaining the Home Front
Even though the embers of war have reached their peak across the United States, the matter of governance will remain to be one of the largest operations for each faction.
Unlike any war after the first Civil War, the frontlines are not an ocean’s length away; they can be seen on the ranches and the farms, sometimes right outside the cities themselves. In such a situation, the home front is maintained on a thin string, threatening to snap at any moment. Especially with enemy sympathisers within each state’s borders, riots, strikes, and internal rebellions might spell a quicker end than any opposing force could ever bring.
Thus, it is up to you, delegates, to hold the morale of your people in face of this catastrophe. Hopefully bringing your side to success.
